Tropical Wallpaper Roundup and pieces that compliment
With summer approaching, what better time than now to take a look at some of the Tropical themed wallpapers on the market. I consider myself to be a tried and true Southern California girl having been born and raised in Santa Barbara and eventually settling in Los Angeles. Los Angeles is home to the Beverly Hills Hotel, an iconic symbol of glamour, wealth and prestige where celebrated writers, artists and actors hole up in the private bungalows for months on end.

Another distinction The Beverly Hills hotel is known for is its iconic Banana leaf wallpaper. The Martinique "A" wallpaper was designed exclusively for the hotel in 1942 by Fashion Designer turned Interior Designer, Don Loper.
Martinique "A" wallpaper is still produced by Martinique in the San Fernando Valley.

Don Loper's clothing designs were coveted by celebrities who loved his fitted jackets, pencil skirts and swing coats. Some of his original designs are available through highend Vintage shops like The Paperbag Princess and Timeless Vixen.

Don Loper made an appearance on the I Love Lucy show in 1955. It's one of my favorite episodes. Lucy accompanies Ricky to Hollywood when he's cast in a cameo role in a film. From the moment the Ricardo's land in Los Angeles, Lucy sets her sights on acquiring a "Don Loper Original". It doesn't take long until Lucy pays a visit to Don Loper's exclusive Beverly Hills shop where she commits to purchase one of his custom designs without looking at the price. Hilarity ensues. I highly recommend it.

De Gournay is another company that makes incredibly beautiful hand painted wallpaper.

Cole & Sons modern take on a classic design could used to create a variety of interiors. Integrating a nice rattan piece for a more casual look is one way to go.

Adding in a piece or two of Cerused Oak or Ash (would work well with any to the Tropical Themed wallpapers. Cerusing is a wood finish technique dating back to the 1500's where white is used to accentuate the grain of the wood. There's a great article on Cerusing at Mitchell Channon Design - Mitchell Channon Design

For a more formal look, consider using a black lacquer piece of furniture paired with a jewel toned velvet sofa or chair.
